Plan to expand drone operations

January 27, 2012 -- The Pentagon plans to expand its fleet of Remotely Piloted Vehicles to enable it to mount 65-85 simultaneous drone Combat Air Patrols. One CAP represents a 24-hour, seven-day patrol with three to four RPVs. The "full force" plan would see some 340 aircraft in the sky 24-7. Graphic shows how CAPs have developed since 2001. ,
